Welp. There it is. "Bunbarians, It was our hope that the big picture would look very differently by this stage, but unfortunately it is with the safety and wellbeing of our fans, artists and staff in mind that we have chosen to postpone our plans for the next installment of Bunbury Music Festival. Cancelling once, let alone twice, is the last thing we want to do. The state of things as they are projected to be would not lead to a safe and fun environment for all come June, so we are looking to the future without shutting the door entirely on 2021. We’ll continue to look for guidance from health officials at all levels and we ask all of you to stay safe and healthy! Bunbarians in the Cincy area have another thing to look forward to this year as well, with the grand opening of Ovation Pavilion, right across the river in Newport, KY. The Indoor/Outdoor Ovation Pavilion hopes to welcome fans later this year! We can’t wait to Bee Together again!" From Citybeat: “It has been difficult to plan and book artists when we are still unsure of what the situation will look like come June,” said Scott Stienecker, president of PromoWest Productions — the company that produces the fest. “We have not been able to secure a lineup that we think is up to the level that our festival attendees have grown accustomed to.” So it sounds like it's a combination of not thinking they can host by June, and being unable to book a good lineup.

It was at least somewhat encouraging that they left the door open for it to take place this year still just not early June. But I would say until the rollout of vaccines starts to look better and people start to get it more en-mass we wont see numbers go down and it'll be really hard to imagine live music coming back before July at this rate. I would LOVE to be wrong on that though.

I’m just hoping live music’s back by September at least — because I need me some Riot Fest.

You think we'll see regular concerts or festivals back first? I could see a case for both. Festivals to maximize money up front probably but I can see bands itching to plan tours also.

I don’t see why at least smaller fests wouldn’t happen — they’re at least outdoors.

I don’t see why at least smaller fests wouldn’t happen — they’re at least outdoors. They would certainly have an easier time tracking attendees should anything happen since it's a much smaller number. And it would be easier at things like that or general concerts to test things like "proof of vaccination" and things like that if promoters decided to go that route.

Festivals to maximize money up front probably but I can see bands itching to plan tours also. There is a case to be made either way. At this point I think it's more likely to see one-offs and festivals first, because that's dealing with regulations from a single city rather than trying to figure out different rules for 18 different places. They're probably going to push rapid tests at the gates. In somewhat promising news, I've been watching not just the percent of the population that's been vaccinated so far, but the projections the New York Times has been updating for when people will be vaccinated "at current pace." The pace is accelerating enough that it's started to get earlier and earlier. And that's without the J&J vaccine getting added in. As of 2/10 they predict the number of people with at least partial vaccination will reach: 50% June 30 70% Sept 8 90% Nov 18
