Always blows me away how big the VIP section is at this fest. Forecastle only has a sliver of a section next to each stage.

It takes up so much of the possible viewing area. The VIP at Sawyer Point is fine by me, people weren't allowed up on that concrete area anyway, so might as well use it. That's why the main stage should be at Sawyer point and the Yeatman's cove stage have a much smaller VIP.

Does anyone know the best way to get to the Yeatman's Cove gate? Is there something specific to tell an Uber/Lyft driver?

Guys, this is the exact same setup as previous years. The VIP is NOT any bigger based on the map

The only real difference I notice is that they moved the water filling stations and possibly added a third one. I think there were 2 before, one by each main stage.

i also noticed a playstation logo on the map. what do you think that could be for? It's a large RV/trailer that is air conditioned and you can go in to play games and get free stuff like sunglasses and shirts

Guys, this is the exact same setup as previous years. The VIP is NOT any bigger based on the map I know it’s not bigger, but it’s still ridiculous. That right side of the stage is an absolutely bottleneck and the view going back is awful. Once you get about twenty yards behind the mixing booth, you can’t see any of the stage anymore. I’ve watched so many acts on just the video screens because you can’t even catch a glimpse of the stage between the trees, the mixing booth, and the narrowness on the right side near the VIP.

I'm talking about the main stage. As long as you can get in front of the mixing booth you're good.

Thought this might help the first timers on the main stage. -There is a massive blind spot that protrudes triangularly from behind the soundboard. The further back you go, the more you have to move to the side to see the stage. -If you are late and absolutely DYING to get close to the stage, hit the purple area between the edge of the crowd and the serpentine wall. We were about 20 minutes late to jack white last year due to bathroom breaks and stood here and were maybe 40 feet from the stage. -The prime spot for this stage are right in front of the sound board. Luckily it's super easy to grab a spot there.

I would also like to add that if you are in the purple area but pining to be up really close to the front, my friends and I randomly started going in and were really close to the rail by just entering almost by the rail through the purple side. It'll probably depend on how popular the act is you are trying to see (this was during Incubus) but we were wildly close so it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the heads up on the River Stage. My niece was hoping to hear some music from Newport or somewhere downtown as she is too young to go(according to my sister). Doubt she will hear much, but thought the River Stage would be best option. Trying to figure out best way help her feel part of the fest from outside it! First year I'm not going so will be interesting.

They do put up barricades closer to the Ohio side of the bridge, but from the middle of the river you can hear and see pretty well. There will be a decent amount of people just hanging out up there and listening in.

I feel like it used to be more open, but recently it was more blocked off, but couldn't recall for sure.

It will allow for more people to see that way, but it will also be a possible bottleneck.

According to WVXU: "The stage will be moved up the steps to the grass, near the Purple People Bridge archways, facing the river"
A spokesperson for the festival is also quoted saying they expect about 40,000 over the three days of the event. A far cry from 60k last year.

This is where the river stage is moving. They had it here in 2017 and it was an absolute bitch to get around the stage since it made a super narrow path between the river and the stage
