Not that I mind talking about Bunbury, but if you really want to create a place for music lovers to discuss music, we should branch out a little bit.
Anybody have any shows on the horizon that they are going to or think would be worth checking out?
I'm heading to the Taft tomorrow night to see Josh Ritter and Gregory Alan Issakov doing an all acoustic show. I've seen Josh several times now and am never disappointed, but I've never seen him in an all acoustic show. I'm looking forward to it.
I'm also really looking forward to The Hold Steady despite it being at Bogarts. As much as I dislike that place, The Hold Steady puts on a great show and I'm not going to miss it. Plus Deer Tick is opening for them.

I'm going to quite a few in the future to cover them for a few different media outlets. Here's what I have coming up this spring:
2/26 - Alejandro Escovedo / Peter Buck @ Taft Theatre 3/3 - Eagles @ US Bank Arena 3/7 - Amos Lee @ Taft Theatre 3/15 - Ray's Music Exchange @ Southgate House Revival 3/21-3/22 - MusicNow Festival @ Music Hall 4/22 - The Hold Steady / Deer Tick @ Bogart's 5/17 - Manchester Orchestra @ Southgate House Revival 5/27 - Conor Oberst / Dawes @ Taft Theatre
If any of you are planning on going to these shows let me know and we can meet up for a beer or something at the show!

I really wanted to go to the Escovedo/Peter Buck show but I had too much going on already and my concert buck can only spread so far.
Right now I'm looking at Josh Ritter tomorrow night, Jonathan Rhichman, Langhorne Slim, Maybe Bruce Springsteen, The Hold Steady, maybe Nickel Creek, maybe Margot and the Nuclear So & So's, maybe Of Montreal, Conor Oberst, Nelsonville Music Festival, Bunbury, Bruno Mars (Don't judge, the guy puts on a great show), and there's always little shows popping up here and there; especially local bands.

I might be able to swing a "one day" type thing I will be going to the Dazid Bazan "living room show" next month. I have tickets for CD102.5 Day 2 with Phantogram, Jagwar Ma, Morning Parade and Magic Man, but not sure if I will make it to that now or not. Anyone want to buy them? ;P I only bough them (mainly) to see Morning Parade. THANKS BUNBURY!!!! ha

MusicNow - of course! best, consistently good music festival we get every year I used to think likewise. It was an eclectic festival in a beautiful and intimate setting (Memorial Hall). However, the "take-over" by the Cincinnati Symphony, started slowly 2 years ago, is now on fast-forward and basically complete. Music Now is simply a CSO weekend at Music Hall. There are no separate shows at Memorial Hall anymore. So long Grizzly Bear. Goodbye St. Vincent. And Justin Vernon. And Sufjan Stevens. Etc. Etc. That said, I still would've gone to the CSO Music Now program, if I were in town. But I'll be away. But back to your post: the Music Now Festival as we knew it and loved it, is no longer.

I dunno about that. I had a great time last year & am stoked about seeing Johnny Greenwood this year. the symphony is music too - I don't have a problem with them mixing it up

I like this idea. We should bring this idea back.
Right now I'm pretty pumped for Guster and Walk the Moon at Bogart's in April. Although I kinda missed the boat on buying Walk the Moon tickets before it sold out...here's to hoping they get a bit cheaper on StubHub.
Also can't wait to see Moon Hooch at the end of February. If you haven't heard of them, look them up and go!

I have a long list of shows that I'm considering, but nothing I've committed to yet.
Feb 17 - Joshua Radin at 20th Century Theatre Feb 20 - Nikki Lane at The Woodward Feb 26 - American Aquarium at Southgate House March 4 - G Love & Special Sauce at Bogarts March 10 - Justin Townes Earle at Southgate House March 15 - Lucero at Taft Theatre March 16 - Swervedriver at The Woodward March 26 - Carbon Leaf at Southgate House April 19 - Indigo Girls with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (That was a Xmas present to the wife, so I'm definitely going to that one)
Last weekend in May is the Nelsonville Festival, which I will probably go to. Went last year and it was one of the best festival experiences I've ever had. So far, very little is announced though. St Vincent, Trampled With Turtles, Moon Hooch, and Hooray for the Riff Raff are the early highlights.

I was looking into the Nelsonville Fest. Looks like a cool fest, but it seems kinda expensive considering the lineup. Do you think its worth it?

I was looking into the Nelsonville Fest. Looks like a cool fest, but it seems kinda expensive considering the lineup. Do you think its worth it? Well they have only announced like six bands so far. They aren't like other festivals. They announce a handful of acts at a time almost right up to the show. It's four days for like $110. That's barely over $25 a day. I would go to Nelsonville no matter who plays just because it's such an expertly run festival. They really have everything down. Hell, you can even bring chairs and set them up in front of the main stage and just leave them there all day. The main stage gets crowded for the headliners but is never over crowded, and even towards the back you can see the stage really well. Obviously if you don't like the music, then you might not like the festival, but if you are looking for a festival experience without the overcrowding and craziness of one of the main festivals, then I would highly suggest it. The only reason I'm on the fence this year is because I'm going to New Orleans the week of Jazzfest a month before and Bunbury is the week after. I'm trying to decide where to best spend my money.

That absolutely sounds like a solid festival experience! I like the acts announced, just not crazy for them. But if its a good experience then I'd be much more willing to go, even if that makes 3 festivals right in a row! Bunbury on the other hand is somewhat lineup dependent. Can't quite put my finger on what it is, but the vibe at Bunbury just isn't quite there. Hopefully whatever changes they make this year will help that.
That's awesome you're going to Jazzfest! That's a solid lineup.
