I would be if it wasn't my son's birthday on Saturday and we will be getting ready for his party. Fucking kid is cramping my style all the damn time. And people ask me why I don't want kids for a while! Never seen them, so I'm pretty pumped. Was gonna go to Fountain Square Friday to check out Automagik, but decided to go to Louisville for the FC Cincinnati game instead.

And people ask me why I don't want kids for a while! My only advice is once you have kids, mold them to your lifestyle instead of molding your lifestyle around them. My kid goes to breweries with us, concerts, music festivals, amazing vacations. We have to adapt some, but we do our best to keep him moving with us.

Any of you guys have info on this? First I"m hearing of it and I was curious if it's mostly hip hop or how it is? I've been dying to see Girl Talk again and will totally go but I don't know if I should expect him to just play his hip hop stuff or if he would play the house party style set. www.ubahnfest.com/artists-1/

Interesting note that probably won't affect anyone posting on this board. I just got word that Buckle Up Festival is being cancelled. I assume due to lack of interest.
I'm not a modern Country fan, but I still know of plenty of Country acts. When I've only heard of one act on your entire Festival Lineup, something's probably not quite right.

I knew a few people who went. I'm not a big country fan (did go to Jamboree in the Hills though for the drinking aspect of it) but I thought that lineup seemed decent? I wonder if PromoWest is taking a step back for a hot second after some of the flaws that their festival here in Columbus got? AKA maybe they lost a lot of money on it and didn't want to potentially take another hit.

I would venture a guess that because they took a year off (and turned in a pretty tame lineup) ticket sales are down. Add in the fact that they moved the location and lost the cost savings from having the same stages as Bunbury, and they might have just killed this festival. Or they could have fucked up a permit like they were rumored to have done in Columbus.

Announced today: Buckle Up Fest is CANCELED. Why do we care about this? Let me count the ways:
1. It is owned by PromoWest, which also owns Bunbury.
2. The first Buckle Up Fest, held in 2014 at Sawyer Point, was a runaway SUCCESS. As a direct result, when PromoWest bought Buckle Up/Bunbury in late '14 or early '15, PromoWest decided to skip 2015 AND move it to the brand new and much larger Summit Park in Blue Ash. As a 20+ year resident of Blue Ash, I am not a big fan of that space, and I'm being mild.
3. This should improve the likelihood that Bunbury remains at Sawyer Point, where it belongs.
The official reason for the cancelation has not been announced, but I am guessing it was low ticket sales. When you look at the line-up they had announced, I simply could not see it attracting tens of thousands of people.
What a bone-headed move by PromoWest to split up Bunbury from Buckle Up. In 2014, these fests were on consecutive weekends at Sawyer Point (so they could maximize/leverage the use of everything over 2 weekends). People really seemed to like that format. But no, PromoWest simply knew better.

2014 was also more of a success because it had a better cross section of acts that could appeal to both your Hardcore Modern Country fan as well as your Alt-Country/Classic Country/Bluegrassy fans. People like Willie Nelson, Old Crow Medicine Show, Drive By Truckers, Houndmouth, Alison Krauss and Sturgil Simpson (among others) can bring you more of a cross audience from Bunbury to fit in with those who are only into the modern Country acts.
If you are going to essentially create a new music festival built around modern Country, you have to have more than just Brad Paisley to get enough of a crowd to flock up to Blue Ash.

Does this make anyone else a little nervous for Bunbury's future? I was starting to think Promowest was poised to take over the music industry in Cincinnati, but this is making it look like they really don't know what they're doing.

But no, PromoWest simply knew better. Saw an article today that said it was due to ticket sales and competition for country shows in the area. I HARDLY call that circumstances outside of their control. They knew the market, they moved the location, they took a year off, and they put together a weak festival. I think it was their fault completely.

I think PromoWest is just really new at this festival thing. They've only begun running them really in the past few years so they are still getting their barrings. Outside of the wristbands (which it sounds like every festival using them is kind of having the same issue with people hating them) it seemed to me Bunbury was a huge success this year in terms of overall turn out. Obviously things could be improved upon (main entrance being the only way to leave, being one of them) but I would imagine Bunbury is their crown jewel at this point.
I did just read last night that they were doing PromoWest Festival again next year already so that's a lock. I would imagine they may consider moving Promowest Festival over to the Scioto Mile where some of the other festivals (Arts & Jazz and Ribs Fest) have been moved recently. A ton more room and a lot of room for multiple stages without having to really shut down any main roads or disrupt residential areas with sound.

I was starting to think Promowest was poised to take over the music industry in Cincinnati, but this is making it look like they really don't know what they're doing. It doesn't look good, that's for sure. It sounds like they took a bath on Buckle Up and it would only be natural to try and recoup losses somewhere else. I don't know if I'm reaching here, but with all of the cancellations by artists, it begs the question: Is PW booking artists for cheaper? Are they saving money by booking riskier clients? Are they getting a better deal by having a weaker contract that allows the artists more flexibility to cancel? Are the treating the artist well or do they have a bad reputation that makes artists want to drop out?

Like I said earlier, if anything, the cancelation of Buckle Up may in fact improve the future of Bunbury, as it is clear now that moving Bunbury from the riverfront to Blue Ash would be an absolute disaster in every which way, and I'd say that PromoWest is learning this the hard (and probably expensive) way.
It boggles the mind what organizers are sometimes thinking. Buckle Up ruined, probably forever. MidPoint a very big question mark with the complete reshuffling of a formula that worked well for so many years. Etc., etc.

They should promote Girl Talk to headliner and let him play a 2 or 3 hour set. He is easily capable of doing that and I think that would actually move a lot of tickets.

The website says free for students with UC student ID. I graduated in 2014. Saw Mat Kearney, Sugar Ray, and Walk The Moon throughout the years. Never once did I need an ID. They advertise you need an ID to try to keep it mostly only UC students, but I've never seen them do it. The only issue I could see is the spring concert, also held at Sigma Sigma Commons, which they advertised needing an ID, featuring a rapper and Robert Delong, had a few fights in the crowd. They did not check IDs, so that could be my only concern. Worst case scenario is you stand just outside the grassy space, you could still see and hear everything.

My brother-in-law who is a firefighter/EMT, nurse, and singer for a local band called Livid, is in a Battle of the Bands hosted by FDIC. You must have a member in the band that is a firefighter or EMT to compete. If anyone could take a moment to vote for them, that would be awesome! If not I understand Thanks! Support local music and your local firefighters! www.fdic.com/battle-of-the-bands.htmlBand is Livid, if you go by browser they are on the second page, by phone I believe they are the 13th band. Thanks to anyone who votes!
