I’ll move over to the actual midpoint thread after this, but Death Cab for Cutie is doing an album in August, they may be a little too big but I’d think they’d be a great fit for midpoint. Or maybe next years bellwether if it happens Band of horses headlined 2yrs ago. I'd say they are pretty close nowadays

Saw today that Hamilton county will be awarding the banks music venue to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (and their subsidiary, MEMI). Not sure what this means for bunbury, but I’m happy this project seems to be moving along. I have to say though I was really hoping it’d be promowest landing this. MEMI does a below average job getting acts to cincy, as almost all the acts I want to see I have to drive to Columbus or Louisville or even Chicago to go see. I also hate country music, which seems to be MEMIs best thing going

I'm not totally hip to the politics in Cinci but this seems like a really weird idea. Promowest should have gotten that venue.

Not sure if city council can block this but I doubt they would who knows what going to happen there’s a lot of moving parts

In other news, Hippo Campus is coming to the Madison theatre in Newport October 10th. This is a really good indie band making a come up and they put on a hell of a show! I’ll be there

George Clinton was a random spur-of-the-moment concert I went to years ago and it was awesome, I definitely need to see him again. Fozzy's album is really good, I am pleasantly surprised how much Jericho has been able to transition to mainstream rock radio with Fozzy finally. I may end up getting tickets to that Metallica show. Still one of my favorite bands.

I was never a huge Metallica fan. They were fine. I appreciated them. But they feel like one of those bands that you just kind of have to experience once in your life. I rarely go to a live show that I don't enjoy. Even if the band isn't really my thing. When people my age were starting to get into Metallica, I was starting to get into REM and my musical tastes just went off into a completely different direction. They make it into my playlists now when I'm looking for something heavy. They are great for working out. Well anything through the black album in 1991. I haven't really listened to much Metallica newer than that.

Some of their newer stuff is a bit bland (especially the albums in the late 2000s and early 2010's) but I actually really enjoyed their most recent one. It seemed much more like their old stuff. Their shows are like a full force freight train though. They do not slow down and will absolutely run through all the hits and make it seem like it just got started by the time it's over because of how just well oiled of a show they put on.

Full force freight train. Could not be more accurate. I would recommend having ear protection. Pretty sure I have tinnitus because of Summer Sanitarium way back in the day. I don't know how much of their newer stuff they play these days, but as long as they kind of skip over that late ots-early 10s stuff for the most part like you said, it will be a kick ass show. Well oiled, veteran band. Definitely worth seeing. We saw Rush a few years back and even though Geddy Lee's vocals aren't perfect anymore, they still know how to put on a great show. And to my knowledge, Hetfield is still cranking out the vocals no problem.

Matt and Kim are coming back to town to The Madison. I saw them there about ten years ago with The Hold Steady and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. To this day one of the best shows I've ever been too.
Matt and Kim have only gotten more polished. Can't wait for this one.
God, I just looked it up. It was 11 years ago. God Damn I'm getting old.

There’s a small free music festival called “paradise music festival” this weekend in Newport KY. Pigeons Playing Ping Pong is headline and I’ve heard they are a lot of fun to see live. I might have to go!

Sir Sly, Arkells and some others are having a free show in sawyer point September 2nd. Missed arkells in 2017 but I’ve always wanted to see them. Sir Sly rocks, saw them at bunbury and lollapalooza and they absolutely killed it both times.

You couldn't pay me to get into that mess. Arkells were great when I saw them open for Frank Turner.

But I believe the concert is before the fireworks so I would just leave while those are going on bc I give no shits about fireworks lol

What's the Cincy website for music/nightlife you guys had mentioned before? The lady and I are planning a weekend trip in March and I wanted to see if there were any good shows in town that weekend.

From what I could tell a lot had been sold already but if you can get your hands on some in the public sale tomorrow it would definitely be worth it. Saw them at Louisville palace in 2017 was a great performance. The live versions they play usually differ greatly from the albums.

Expect a theatre type environment where everyone sits during the show though
