I don't know when is too soon but with some rumors starting to come out about Festivals and lineups I figured it was time to add a new thread for the 2022 Festival Season!
Obviously we've all heard the rumors that Bunbury might be drastically scaled down moving forward so I figured perhaps (unless people object) we just treat this like we had the past few years and make it more of a general thread to keep track of rumors and lineups as they come out!
I've heard so far that Swedish House Mafia would be at Coachella. On Inforoo they seem to think that Tool (based on tour dates) will be at Bonnaroo and the Coldplay tour dates lineup with Bonnaroo although no one seems to be as confident in that.
Has anyone else seen any yet? I know Wonderstruck and Wonderbus are coming back to Ohio again but we usually don't get any leaks for those.

The people I have spoken to in the Cincinnati music industry said they would be shocked if Bunbury was back in any fashion. Apparently AEG is having a very difficult time even booking Ovation. The quote I was told was that AEG was caught off guard with how tough MEMI is to compete with.

I haven't been following the Ovation bookings too much when I get the emails but I remember someone on here posting their first wave of opening concerts and it wasn't overly impressive. I know they run the venues up here but with Wonderbus becoming more notable and bigger I can't imagine they would allocate those resourced to a Columbus-type Bunbury even either. Speaking of which, I saw they confirmed dates for both the Wonder-fests and have started Presale as of this afternoon. They are really getting a jump on things compared to some other festivals out there, which is a bit surprising but welcomed!

I think we'll see a handful of shows with "Bunbury Presents" branding at Ovation this year, similar to what they did with The Killers. I personally think it would be cool to do a series of smaller festival style shows at Ovation, like what radio stations often do for Christmas or birthday shows. A bigger/midsize band like Paramore, PTM, Young the Giant, Foster Walk the Moon, etc. headlining, with several other bands on the bill as well. As for Wonderbus, I'm excited to see them getting the jump. They did the same thing in 2019 IIRC. I know I bought pre-sale tickets super early because the price was so good, and 2019 was a great experience. I feel like they were even cheaper than the $99 they're up for now, but it's still a freaking steal for the lineups they've delivered and the quality of the event. I'm definitely grabbing up a pair for Wonderbus. Worst case scenario, I hate the lineup or can't go, I can easily sell them back when the prices go up.

I may pull the trigger and get tickets early and just see what the lineup looks like. Since they aren't affiliated with anyone it's a lot harder to gauge artist's tour schedule and this festival unless they skip Columbus all together. Which speaking of which I saw Joywave skipped Columbus all together but hits Cleveland this spring, so maybe there is something to that. They've come here in the past on tours.

The only thing we can go on is that Wonderstruck and Wonderbus have not been shy about re-using artists from the other festival, or even sharing them the same year. I'm hoping for PTM at Wonderbus, along with some of the bands that got dropped from the original Wonderstruck lineup: Of Monsters and Men, Saint Motel, Matt Maeson, Brittany Howard, etc. Obviously we didn't get the 2020 Wonderbus lineup before everything went to hell, but I think it's a safe assumption there were considerable changes to that lineup as well. I'm fairly confident Grouplove was not originally planned as a 2020 act, given that they had a show booked at Express Live in May of that year. They also do seem to love booking bands with connections to Ohio. For those reasons, I'm going to say Foster the People seems like a strong possibility if they are touring. Mark is originally from Cleveland and they've headlined Wonderbus when it was still LaureLive

FestiveOwl reports that after this weekend's tragedy at Astroworld, Travis Scott is being dropped from all major festival lineups, and no events seems interested in booking him anytime soon. Quote from anonymous festival booking agent: "No chance he ever steps on our stage again".
Obviously this is a terrible tragedy, and was totally preventable. Everything I've read points to Travis being directly responsible, at least partially. His crowds' behavior at festivals has ALWAYS been an issue, as long as I can remember. There was concern 4 or 5 years ago about this type of thing, and I remember his fans vandalizing an arena and trying to break in after he cancelled a show shortly before doors due to production issues.
Bottom line: this is appears to be a much needed wakeup call for festivals about what type of artists they are booking and the fan bases those artists bring in. A lot of festivals have been booking lineups catered more towards younger crowds more interested in "turning up" than having a good experience for a full weekend. I'm hopeful this is a turning point.

Shaky Knees lineup just dropped. Another very strong lineup with some heavyweight headliners. Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, and My Morning Jacket. Undercard includes CHVRCHES, Billy Idol, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Death Cab For Cutie, Mt Joy, Spoon, and more.

Love that Shaky Knees lineup. Definitely have that one earmarked as a potential next year. Outside of Wonderbus, I'm hoping to hit one more and Shaky Knees or a return to Forecastle or Bonnaroo are kind of my top picks so far (depending on lineups of course).
That Astroworld Festival thing is just tragic beyond belief. I was on vacation and wasn't aware of it at first but then when we started reading about it, the news just continued to be more and more shocking. Why he and the crew didn't immediately stop the concert is beyond me. Also, why were they allowing children in at a show like this? This didn't seem like a festival that children should be attending (I say this after just seeing a child had recently passed away in the hospital and was at the show).

This didn't seem like a festival that children should be attending (I say this after just seeing a child had recently passed away in the hospital and was at the show). Excited for Forecastle, but a bit bummed they're on Memorial Day weekend now. As a stereotypical Indy resident, race day is a sacred tradition that I never miss, so that rules out Sunday and probably Saturday too unless I want to drive two hours back super late or super early, which I am open to if there's a stellar headliner that night. Yeah, everything about Astroworld is soooo tragic, especially because it was so senseless and preventable. Travis has had issues with crowds for a long, long time. He is known for encouraging that type of behavior, and the promotional video for the fest is pretty damning, as it repeatedly shows footage of crowds moshing and rushing gates/stages, as if that's the type of atmosphere they wanted. I agree, it was poor judgement to allow children that age to an event like this. Most club shows are 18/21+, but I guess that would cut into their core audience of high school students. Only silver lining from this is that I think festivals are going to be a lot more aware and cautious of the types of crowds they are attracting when booking lineups. I think festivals were starting to wake up to that already though. Governors Ball was having a HUGE problem with teenagers coming in intoxicated, using drugs and behaving irresponsibly that they had to institute an 18+ policy this year. I think it's sad that it has to come to that at some festivals, and I honestly think that can be solved by just not booking acts that hype up that type of behavior. You look at a fest like Wonderbus where I saw a lot of families and kids there for acts like AJR, and everyone was behaving responsibly. Like I said, I hope this is a big wake up call for festivals to be aware of the environment they're curating.

I know I might be the only one who cares on here, but Sonic Temple will not be happening in 2022. I always felt they had a good mix of genres and old/new artists. I like the looks of Shaky Knees but I will probably just hit several tours this year. I still have my rage/rtj tickets and have an eye on a few others. Really hope BMTH goes on tour in the US
Edit: Sonic will supposedly return in 2023

Was hoping we might get Green Day for it this year, but I'm holding out hope for Louder Than Life, or Riot Fest I understand postponing last year, but also doing it this coming year has me leery that this festival comes back if they plan to still run all of their other rock festivals. I was supposed to go in 2020 to see Metallica (crying face). I know at one point there was speculation of a SXSW type set up in Columbus with Sonic Temple but we'll see. I know they are running shows (Kenny Chesney is bringing his big day festival type show) at the Old Crew Stadium so I can't imagine it has anything to do with the venue in particular. Really hoping they bring it back in 2023.

Agreed. This one is done. That was a lot of words for “we are focusing on the PW Pavillon and not bringing Bunbury back.”
Blaming all those issues and saying it’s hard for a small festival to get going again seems like a bit of a weak excuse tbh. Wonderbus and Wonderstruck are significantly smaller that bunbury and pulled off very successful events this year.

I am not picking a fight, just an observation......I would hate to say that 12 booked shows in 2022 for the Ovation vs 14 booked shows for the Icon is losing the battle.

This is a real bummer. It's what I expected, but a small part of me was still hoping to walk out on to the Bunbury grounds in 2022. I guess I'll watch for the Wonderbus and Wonderstruck lineups. Not buying tickets until I see them though.

Bummer but we all mostly thought this would happen. I don't see it coming back, at least not anytime soon.
We should definitely still keep the forum active with festival and show content! It's really been mostly outside Bunbury stuff for quite some time as is.

Elevation Group, the promoter of Wonderbus and Wonderstruck, have announced they will have a new festival next year “somewhere in the Midwest”. The city, lineup, and other details will be announced a week from today. The post featured a graphic with the words “Crossroads of America” which is the nickname for Indiana. I’m super hopeful that Indy is FINALLY getting a festival!

Indy is a very cool city, and I'm shocked we haven't gotten a real music festival yet. There was an attempt in 2016, but it failed spectacularly because of promoters who had no idea what they were doing. I feel like Indy is a good fit for Elevation's size/style of event. They seem to have perfected the 2 day alternative/indie-pop festival model in Columbus, and I think they're definitely in position to replicate in other cities. Again, I really think the signs point to Indy, but if not here, then I'm thinking somewhere in central Illinois or St. Louis. St. Lous used to have LouFest, a similarly sized 2 day alternative festival, but it went belly up just a few days before the 2018 edition, leaving bands and vendors high and dry. I suppose a Cinci festival is possible, but with Icon and Promowest already having in a booking war for the acts that come through, finding enough talent to book a lineup may be difficult. That, and adding a third Ohio event might start cutting in to Wonderbus and Wonderstruck a little bit. Kentucky is already saturated with Forecastle, Railbird, Louder than Life, and another event I cannot remember. I don't see them straying too far from OH, so I think it's gotta be Indy.
