Posted about it in The Owl Parliament, which is Festive Owl's Patreon members only page.
He responded "I saw it this morning but I haven’t received word one way or another yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if Metallica dropped out with Hettfield’s rehab issues."

I wouldn’t be surprised if Metallica dropped out with Hettfield’s rehab issues." He's out of rehab and performed at a tribute show this weekend though. I can't pretend to know what it's like going through rehab or even judge people on how they go about the process at all so maybe they just don't see doing shows right now as a healthy thing for him to get back into just yet. I would much rather see Metallica at 100% than anything less.

I think rehab issues was just a general thing. Like you said, maybe he bit off more than he can chew and isn't going to play as many shows as planned. Who knows?
But, I'd think it's a whole lot easier for Festive Owl to get a denial than it is for him to get a confirmation. If it wasn't true there would be nothing lost to just saying it's a hoax. If it is true, they may just not want to admit it until they get to tell it their way. Or maybe James himself is planning on breaking the news first if it's a bigger picture thing.

I've never really been invested in (aka attending I guess) a festival where this scenario has occurred. How long does something like that leak before the organizers would address it? I guess it's kind of unique because the lineup is already released originally as opposed to like speculation on a lineup that hasn't been out there yet.

If it's personal issues from the artist, the festival may work with the artist to release the information on their timeline as long as it's not too much of a hindrance to the festival. I'd imagine when the info leaks out that the timetable may be sped up a little bit. I guess we will see.

And it's now on the fest page. This is the weirdest year for headliners.

According to the e-mail Sonic Temple sent they are offering the ability to exchange the tickets for any other Wimmer festival that Metallica is headlining or offering a full refund for people who want them. Honestly that's pretty good of them. I fully expected them to give the line of "You aren't purchasing weekend passes to see one band so we cannot offer refunds"

This puts me firmly on the fence. Getting the refund would help me allocate those funds to my WonderBus and Forecastle tickets and then just see if they swing back through next year to make up for it or not...

I would be way more excited now for Sonic but Tool just announced a stand alone show in Toledo on May 4th.

I'm just hoping that they do what they did last year and basically give out free tickets again to "sell out" the festival

Full refund or exchange for tickets to Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville, Aftershock or Sonic Temple. Or you can keep them I guess.

I know the switch the Chili Peppers and Tool officially sold a few of my friends who bought tickets as soon as they found out. I don't think the change is going to kill the fest at least

I don't think the change is going to kill the fest at least It shouldn’t. There’s just as many people who were disappointed in Metallica playing 2 days as were excited. I think the ticket sales were actually pretty slow because they released special 2 day VIP and released the daily lineup real early this year

Looks like the Ultra Abu Dhabi and Miami fests got cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

actually i can see why it was canceled. it attracts people from dozens of countries. i don't think bunbury is in any legitimate danger.

I would think since those are coming up very soon that could be why too. I think things into the Summer probably are a bit more optimistic that there'll be a better understanding (maybe even a handle?) on it.

Festive Owl has been in contact with lots of fests and says all options are on the table, but the festivals in the next 8 weeks are the only ones in any real jeopardy of cancellation or postponement.

South By Southwest has been cancelled. That doesn't speak well for Coachella coming up.

Did anyone also see that Ultra is essentially not refunding anyone and is offering to either comp their tickets for next year or give them access to some of their other stuff instead? That's pretty messed up if you ask me. People come from all over the world for that and you can't assume that they'll be able to make it the following year just because they could this year.
Has anyone had any issues with flights? It's not directly music or festival related but I have a flight in a few weeks and we plan to still go but was wondering if airlines were being more flexible with giving credit towards other flights and things like that for people vs. just not refunding like some festivals are starting to do it looks like.

Festive owl said coachella is postponed Apparently they have 48 hours to get everything set for the new dates in October, or its off altogether. I'll be curious if other Spring fests follow suit. Okeechobee went on as planned last weekend and as of now, everyone else is a go. I think by early summer, festivals will be in the clear.

I hope Shaky Knees is still a-go. As far as I can tell, they plan on putting it on.. they announced their late night shows this morning.
But, cases in the US are only going to increase. So...

If any of you were on the fence about going to the Melted Festival this weekend, they have announced that they are still a go as of this moment and that the remaining tickets are "deeply discounted". $65 for the weekend, $30 for Friday, $40 for Saturday.
