I went to both days of Railbird and thought it was excellent. Their biggest hiccup was with leaving the parking lot on Saturday, but was remedied by Sunday. The layout of the festival was great. No bottlenecks between the two stages. Plenty of space to watch the bands. The crowds were huge, but not overwhelming. Lexington really does a great job of supporting their local festivals. Raconteurs, Brandi Carlisle, Hozier, OCMS, Mavis Staples, Futurebirds, Low Cut Connie, And many more put on great performances with really good support from the crowds. The place was very chill. A great end of the summer festival season show. Will definitely head back next year. I went on Saturday and I agree with everything you stated above. I did think the Raconteurs were going to come out for an encore but the crowd kind of disbursed quickly after they finished up. There was still about 10 minutes left until 11 so I thought they may come back out. Raconteurs was the best headliner I’ve seen. They were just so good. Agree that I thought they were going to do an encore and stayed until they turned in the lights. However a buddy of mine had checked their previous set lists and had ended the shows earlier and then came back out for 5 songs and always ended with the song they ended with, so it was planned.

I went to Railbird too. Agree with everything that's been said. The festival was very well laid out and an overall cool vibe. Tyler Childers had a huge crowd with him being a KY native. I would probably go back next year depending on the lineup. Only had one complaint. I thought the prices for food and drink were a bit outrageous. Mich Ultra and Budweiser aluminum bottles were $9. Cans of water were $4. Pretty much everything else was $10-$15 (most food items and mixed drinks). It seemed like this festival was targeting a wealthier crowd with the high priced VIP sections, chef performances, etc. Heard someone say beer prices were the same at the race track, so I guess everything at Keeneland is pretty expensive. There is also an airport right beside the festival, so we saw private jets coming and going throughout the day which was pretty cool. Needless to say I spent quite a bit of money over the two days, but overall it was a good time.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Firefly being gone. The company that ran it, Red Frog Events, closed up shop. redfrogevents.com/

I swear ever since they had the huge rains a few years ago and the people got stranded in their cars in the mud (I think that was Firefly?) it's never gotten the juice it used to have. I know someone that went last year and she put up a lot of instagram videos and was already front row and it looked like the turn out was pretty poor.

They went from Florence, Kings of Leon, Mumford, Deadmu5, Tame Impala, Blink 182, Death Cab, Major Lazer and Of Monsters and Men along with a DEEP undercard to Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, Chance the Rapper, Bob Dylan, Muse, Flume and Thirty Seconds to Mars with a lighter undercard in one year.I thought 2018's was a bit better with The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Eminem, Kendrick, Foster the People, Portugal the man and MGMT with a decent undercard, but man, 2019 was bad.

Guns n Roses is getting a three hour set at Louder Than Life. Wow.

Guns n Roses is getting a three hour set at Louder Than Life. Wow. That seems ridiculous to me. I mean we all have bands that we love enough to watch a 3 hour set, but the majority of festival goers are not those people. If I were a betting man, I bet they show up 45 minutes late and leave 30 mins early. The longest set I've ever heard of from any band is Radiohead's Israel show where they played 27 songs nearly 2 hours and 30+minutes long. However, looking at some of Guns n Roses recent setlist, they are regularly playing about 30 songs per show...so maybe the 3 hour set is realistic??

I am still beyond salty they haven't played Columbus on this never ending tour. I would sit through 3 hours of Guns n Roses at a venue but a festival would be tough. That's people standing (mostly without seats or blankets probably) for a REALLY long time.

I really have to wonder what's going on with Bourbon and Beyond and Louder than Life. The parking info was stupid late, the security restrictions are absurd (bottled water, but no refillable jug for one, no bags of any sort that aren't clear for another), et al.
Is there really that big of an issue in Louisville?

Is there really that big of an issue in Louisville? Danny Wimmer Presents (DWP) has always been strict on water resources. Honestly surprised they allow 1 bottle in. The clear bag rule is a new one that has arisen with the Separation of companies in the past year. Not that bad of rule tbh. I feel like it will hit other fests sooner or later. My guess is parking was a bit unclear at first due to the new venue. Everything I've seen about hometown rising looks pretty promising for the venue though. DWP puts on Sonic temple, Welcome to Rockville, Epicenter, and Aftershock festivals. They are my personal favorite promoter. They are in touch with their community and are dedicated to the music.

Having gone to a decent amount of festivals, this definitely sounds like the strictest rules I've seen for a multi-day festival. The clear bag things is interesting because they do it for local concerts and what not sometimes in Columbus but big events they either limit the bag size or just check everything. I can't imagine not being able to bring in like an empty camelback to a big all-day/multi-day festival.

Yeah no camelbacks at those fests. I remember at Rock on the Range 2018 we brought some in on the first day and the second day they wouldn’t let them in.

I think it's irresponsible to not allow people to bring in a sealed bottle of water. Some people are so set in getting a great spot that they will stand in the sun all day and end up passing out because they don't want to spend $8 on a water

Some people are so set in getting a great spot that they will stand in the sun all day and end up passing out because they don't want to spend $8 on a water Yeah it is a bit. But it is listed on their Faq page. The way I see it, if you have enough money to buy a ticket to a festival you can buy a bottle of water OR just sneak one in lol. If they get front row without a water bottle that's their own fault. Most of the profits don't come from ticket sales, it comes from Vending/Merchandise. Sure I hate spending $4 on a bottle of water, but at the same time I know I only spent $100 on a ticket to see 60 bands including Foo fighters, System of a Down, Disturbed etc. So I think it's feasible. Do I want more water stations? Yes. But I know that having MORE water stations at a festival is around $50k so they would just have to make tickets more expensive to cover it. Do I want more bag checks so I can bring in whatever bag I want? yes. That's probably around $150k in additional security. $7 for a clear drawstring bag, $12 for 3 water bottles (1 a day), is totally worth only spending $100 for a fest.

We had four people drop in the front last night from Fogarty on out. The worst was a total collapse that EMTs took 10+ minutes to get to. One of the event staff kept jumping onto the railing and doing the X sign and yelling over the headset for someone to get over there. Stupidly bad, and the festival felt understaffed.
Then again, I saw two guys hop the double-railing inbetween GA and VIP right beside two security guys on the Barrel side during The Flaming Lips' set. The security guys looked at them, shrugged, and ignored it.

Innings Fest just dropped their 2020 lineup. I don't think this has ever had a ton of crossover acts with Bunbury, but Portugal. The Man, OAR, The Struts, and Dr. Dog would all be fun

Attended Louder than life this past weekend. Great venue. Kind of dusty and not a lot of shade but that's all I can really complain about. Security was nice and audio sounded good. GN'R was kinda meh but I could've guessed that to happen. Hearing that the turnout was 150k+. New largest rock fest in the nation beating out RoTR/Sonic Temple. Had a blast.

It honestly impresses and surprises me that Louisville can host two large scale rock festivals two weeks in a row and they can both be so well attended. Obviously they do kind of cater to different niches in the rock world, but there's definitely some overlap with bands that could fit at either of the two festivals. Foo Fighters, ZZ Top and GNR come to mind as headliners that could be interchangable. It just seems kinda crazy that Louisville can host a total of three rock/alternative festivals each year (counting Forecastle although they cater to a different demo) and be successful.

Based on some rumors that look to be true. Next year's rock/metal circuit through DWP. Slipknot/Judas Priest to attend all of them as well (if true). I know none of these bands will be at bunbury but I thought some people might be interested. If this turns out to be true I think Louisville will officially dethrone Columbus for #1 rock fest. System will draw a larger crowd than Maiden without a doubt in my mind. Especially after Louder than Life establishing such a dominant scene.
