2019 map is out! Pretty much the same as last year with the exception of the Port stage, which is for local, smaller acts, being moved over across from the Boom Stage. Last year's layout was really nice so I'm looking forward to this year's layout as well.

As much as it pains me to say this, it looks like I'll be selling two Friday GA passes to Forecastle. I'd like to get back what I paid, which is tier one pricing (they're at tier 2 now, $10 more apiece) but I'm willing to knock a few dollars off. Anyone interested? GREAT Friday lineup featuring The Killers, Portugal. the Man, Judah + the Lion, COld War Kids, and more. SHoot me a message if interested

Hopefully someone scoops em up from you. Outside of it being almost 90 every day, the weather, so far, looks to be perfect for this coming weekend. We are going to adventure around town Saturday and Sunday before heading to the festival. Any places people would recommend we should check out?

Its still 50/50 I can go but I need to figure it out soon so I can decide whether or not to sell the tickets. Thought work would not be a conflict but now its looking like it might be.

Going to Forecastle Friday, it's the first time there and obviously can't wait until Portugal The Man. Lucked out on Hotwire and got a night at The Brown for $110, amazing.

Managed to get my work situation sorted out and I'm all good for Friday. I'm pretty excited to see PTM for the first time and the Killers again.

I'm excited to get back to the waterfront and I'm excited to hear what folks on here think of their first time. Forecastle is a great all around experience and atmosphere. I will be curious to see how much more crowded it is Friday this year over Friday last year. The lineup of last year's Friday was significantly weaker (imo) than this year and it still seemed very well attended. I have the Forecastle app which shows who folks have added to their schedules. The Killers and PTM are by far the most scheduled artists, so I expect it to be super crowded. IDK how close to selling out they are, but I'd have to think they're close for Friday

I dont know how many tiers they do but with the weather looking to hold steady at this point at sunny and warm, one would think the last minute/walk up purchases will be good. After hearing that I'm glad we already saw Portugal the Man last summer at Express so I can go from Chromeo to check out some of Judah and the Lion and then Jungle. I know people are going to be crazy trying to get close to Portugal based on how dedicated their fan base was at Express.

Yeah, we're definitely planning on staking out a good spot by the Mast stage to see PTM. We might go check out some Judah and the Lion but we definitely want to have a decent spot for the Killers

I’ll do a more comprehensive roundup after the weekend but just initial thoughts after one day of Forecastle: this festival blows Bunbury out of the water! A lot of effort put into recycling and sustainability, the layout is near perfect and the bourbon lounge is amazing. Total game changer having that air conditioned bar. Im curious what the main stage VIP area is like. It looks cool.
We spent about 5 minutes at the Party Cove and holy crap lol. That place is a trip.

Lol we went over there for a minute too just because I was wondering if it was truly what I remembered. Its super interesting how as soon as you get over to that part of the fest, the demographics change. That's not really a bad thing, I have no issues with it, but totally not my scene. Agreed about how well put together it is. I actually think they've improved over last year and last year was damn near perfect too. Easier entry process and shorter lines for water were noticeable and really made a difference. Also, better lighting at the end of the night for exiting. This fest knows what they're doing, Also, super chill people. We were fairly close to the Mast stage for the top 3 acts and not one problem with rude or pushy people.

We had zero issues with people around us and being able to move up or back on the stages. Haha I actually think it’s a great idea to have the Party Cove. There is nothing wrong with supplying that demo with a dedicated stage and area to literally rage their faces off haha. I also saw that houndmouth is joining CAAMP on stage today! Whitney is going to be jealous he is missing that!

Its cheap talent because no one really cares who the DJ is, but it actually attracts a whole different demographic. Its incredible how many people seem to be there just for that scene. Like I said, you can literally see the demographic change when you go over there. The number of basketball jerseys increase by 1000% haha. But they don't bother anyone and bring in a whole different demo and more revenue. I'd say Bunbury should follow suit, but idk where they'd put something like that, unless they expanded the grounds again.

So is the party cove a stage or it’s own actual area with vendors and everything? At Bonnaroo (the other) and Lollapalooza (Perry’s) they have stages that just run the basic edm and some rappers the entire time, if you’re a festival it’s a solid idea bc you can get that basic high school/college crowd to buy tickets without having them piss off everyone else

I haven’t made it to the Party Cove yet, but the Bourbon Lounge is great. The Killers were phenomenal. Top acts so far,
1. The Killers 2. Moon Taxi 3. Judah and the Lion 4. Hop Along 5. Cold War Kids 6. The Band Camino 7. Caamp 8. Portugal the Man 9. Nelly

I'm a little surprised he wasn't on the Mast stage. I know it's been a while since he's put anything out, but in the early 2000s, he hat hit after hit after hit after hit. I personally thought switching he and Maggie Rogers would make more since, but who knows.

Ok, so I went back to Forecastle for Friday only for the second year in a row. I truly wish I could have done all days, but it was not possible this year. A few thoughts, some of which echo other posts above:
This is how you run a festival, concert, or any event really. This team has it figured out. My experience was literally perfect. Not a single complaint. The few minor annoyances I encountered last year (slow entry lines and poorly marked lane for single day only passes, long lines for water, poor traffic flow in one spot) had been rectified and were noticeably better. This festival is just so well laid out. I know they've moved things around a little from past years and tweaked things, and it really shows. Everything flows so well, and it feels like the vendors and attractions are in the perfect spots. Walking time from stage to stage is minimal, maybe 2 or 3 minutes at most from Mast to Boom, and even less from Ocean to Mast as its just across the way and even if the show is starting, you're able to see and here it as you walk toward the stage. The art installations and decorations around the festival really add to the vibe and sell the theme. Also cool that there were various activism booths and exhibits throughout the festival, giving it a little more purpose than just a music fest.
The people: The people Friday were just awesome. It was my kind of crowd. Predominantly mid 20s to late twenties, but a good mix of 30s to 60s as well and of course a nice helping of teens/college kids in the party cove. The great lawn was packed for PTM and the Killers, but I did not encounter any rude people nor any pushing.
The Music: What can I say other than it was just an absolutely stacked day? I spent most of my time at Mast for Cold War Kids, PTM and the Killers but I did check out Chromeo and a bit of Judah and the Lion. The Killers once again proved why they are a headliner. Unbelievable set, and even though Brandon wasn't happy about it, the fireworks going off on the river for the Louisville Batts game during "Shot at the Night" was super cool. I also thought the appearance from White Reaper was a nice touch, and PTM bringing out a Native American Chief to provide a traditional prayer in the form of song right before the set was unique and showed their commitment to each city they play. There really was not a bad act that I saw, but The Killers and PTM were the highlights as expected.
Again, overall this such an incredible festival. I really can't wait to go back, and I do plan to even if the lineup is mediocre.
Finally, spitballing some potential headliners and subs that would really fit with this fest's vibe and demographic in no particular order. Hope to see some of these next year!

Elaborate on that if you could...I guess he just made a remark about the fireworks? He did the same in Cincy but said "its fun when the Reds win!"

I don’t remember him making any remarks, but I could tell from his demeanor that he was a bit annoyed by it. I’m sure I would be too if I was in his shoes, but as a concertgoer it was a pretty fun addition.
