Just got the alert from FestiveOwl, new music festival coming to Columbus August 17th and 18th. Very little info so far other than the name, WonderBus, and the promise of a lineup in early April. According to their Facebook page, it is produced by the same group who does LaureLive, and it hints that it will be a similar scale festival. It says the festival is fully booked and will be announced early April!! Pretty excited for this event since I'll likely be skipping Bunbury. A two day festival in Columbus could be a lot of fun.
EDIT: Twitter says it will feature "Some of the biggest names in Alternative, Indie-Pop, Jazz-Funk and Jam Rock.

Early prediction that they end up with artists that we all wished Bunbury got. Those genres appeal to me greatly so this will be a no brainer for me. Really hope it’s well planned.
Whitney, what do the sources think about this news?

Whitney, what do the sources think about this news? So what kind of bands are we thinking? Someone like Vampire Weekend, Lumineers or Weezer for a headliner? I honestly forget all the plausible headliners we had for Bunbury. Also, I'm guessing this is out of the Forecastle radius clause and I'm hoping they share a few undercard acts like PTM and CHVRCHES. Both would be a great gets for a new fest. Also crossing my fingers for Grouplove, Alice Merton, The Interrupters, Sir Sly, Bishop Briggs, The Head and the Heart, Walk the Moon,Bleachers, and other bands along those lines.

Well Weezer is here this Spring so they would likely be out but gotta think everyone else is in play. If I was on my computer I would do some digging on touring schedules but I’ll save that for tomorrow. The branding makes me think it’ll be a bit more funk-ish

I saw moe. has a tour this summer. Seems like that could fit right in. Maybe Umphery's McGee as well. I have a source in a regional funk/jam band (guess which one lol) who may have some info on that scene and who is playing where. Not sure when I'll see/hear from them next but I'll see if I can get some info.

Whitney, what do the sources think about this news? Well first off, I'm pumped if there is gonna be a festival in Columbus! The genres mesh well with my tastes and I will for sure be keeping up on this! I haven't seen my source since the Andrew McMahon show, but I will ask next time I see them. The next thing I have planned with them is the John Mayer show August 3rd so hopefully I see them sooner than that haha

I know someone who is pretty out and about in the bar/restaurant/events scene that might know something. I'll try and ask her if she knows anything about the group.

Just thinking who might headline this fest, and if its a similar size to Laurelive and based on the genres they're teasing, I could see Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats headlining a day. They've gotten big and seem to draw well in Columbus, and Indy as well.

Acts like Foster the People and Bleachers would seem like people that could be possibilities. Bleachers in particular draws extremely well when they are in town. Also, do we have any idea where this is located? That will probably give a good idea of size and scope. It's not at Mapfre, Crew have a home game that Saturday. I could it maybe being at the fair grounds but I would think something like this would be more centralized downtown if you wanted to maximize attendance and appeal. Just definitely NOT at McPherson Commons. Everyone else has tried that and it just does not work.

They played Express Live Outdoor in 2017 the same month they played Deluxe in Indy, which has a capacity of MAYBE 500. Don't get me wrong, it was AMAZING to see Bleachers in such an intimate environment, especially being a few feet from the rail. I REALLY want to see Bleachers again. Foster too, but they're not doing any shows this year according to their guitarist. I'm feeling something like Death Cab or Head and the Heart as far as another headliner. I'm guessing that Laurelive is too close to share acts, same with Bunbury, so I'm ruling those out.

The stage presense and energy is so wild. I was also thinking maybe Tame Impala? I also just noticed that the Woodstock is that weekend, so while a lot of bands will be there I would have to think some of them could come here for this. Lower card acts probably but still.

Tame Impala may be a bit out of range for this first year fest. They've gotten quite big and are headlining some major fests this year. They were just announced for MoPop alongside Vampire Weekend, which are two pretty major gets for MoPop. Unfortunately however, that's about all the fest has. The undercard is terribly disappointing, I only recognize a few names and I've never actually listened to any of those names. I hope this festival doesn't blow all its money on a few big headliners, I'd rather see a more balanced lineup with bands like we've discussed above.

It's such a big area and it looks really cool but any time there is a show there, it's damn near empty. I saw Day to remember, saosin, taking back sunday, and dashboard confessional on the 2016 taste of chaos tour there and it was a blast! It was maybe 1/3 full but I still had a great time!

Well everything I've been there for has done the dual stages thing with them facing each other, which traffic flow wise isn't the greatest but isn't a huge issues but staggering the lineup so the sound doesn't bleed into each other always seems to be an issue. If they would put a stage in the commons area and one way on the other side along the river...that would be a solid set up. Especially if they could find a way to shut down some streets. But the 2 stages in just the commons area always is kind of meh. I also think the noise rules around that area kind of damper things because they have to be done by 10pm (I think?) and I've heard in the past that the apartments/condo people along it always put up quite a stink whenever there are concerts there. That being said, the space is cool and I would love for them to find a way to incorporate it into a bigger layout where it's a part of an overall venue.

So WonderBus posted on social media that "some of their artists released new music today" as a hint. So far all I know that released new tunes and would fit are Cage the Elephant and Foals. Cage would be a GREAT get for this new festival. If Beck is booked too, I'd be thrilled. I doubt it, but that might be a best case scenario

The Black Keys and Local Natives also released music today. If either of those or Cage the Elephant are there I will be purchasing a ticket immediately. The National also just released a new song although I think it came out yesterday.

Local Natives, CHVRCHES, Cage the Elephant, FOALS, Billie Eilish and The National seemed like ones that would be most likely contenders.

I just bought tickets for the Pumpkins, Noel Gallagher, AFI show in Cuyahoga Falls, which is the day after WonderBus. It's not that I couldn't manage both, but I'll be pretty annoyed if they book a good festival there after Bunbury turned out so poorly. My GF can't do WB after other stuff we've booked. We're doing Vampire Weekend in Milwaukee in June. Was this post about new songs also the day VW put out a couple more new tracks?

I know they had a song on the Fridays Release playlist on spotify So I think so. I’ve never considered if there would be a radius clause for something in columbus and Cuyahoga but that def feels like it would make them likely for the festival. Although they are doung a Livenation tour so I dont know if that impacts where they play?

WonderBus confirmed on social media a total of 26 acts, so 13 per day. So I'm leaning toward two stages, maybe three if they space them out a bit. For comparison, LaureLive has 31 acts listed this year. Hopefully less acts means bigger names

They've given out more info that festivals usually do ahead of time. Obviously being a first time festival and having a tight window helps us.
