Is it just me, or do these hard rock festivals seem to be growing in popularity? Pretty cool that this one is on the lawn of the haunted Mansfield Reformatory though. Very cool place if you have never been there Its not just you. I feel like as mainstream music festivals shift away from traditional rock headliners like Foo Fighters or GNR, its opened the door for hard rock festivals to gain ground by drawing in some of the fans that have shifted away from fests like Hangout or Firefly. Just my thoughts.

Just my thoughts. It's also the genre growing in general. "Heavy Metal" had the largest growth in popularity (through streaming) last year with an increase of 154%. The second largest was JPop with 133%. Rock is definitely beginning to make a resurgence. I can only imagine this years growth with some of the genre's biggest bands like Tool, Slipknot, Korn, Rammstein, Deftones, Rob Zombie, etc. and some other quickly growing fore-fronters of the genre all coming out with new albums in 2019. Next year, it would not surprise me at all to see Tool or someone like that headline Lolla again.

The rise of rock festivals definitely has me excited. That was my favorite genre for a long time until a lot of the names now popping up kind of went away for awhile. Now that a lot of those early 2000s acts are starting to tour again more and put out music I think it's a perfect time for that genre to push out new acts and festivals. I think if you see new albums (definitely still a question mark) from System of a Down, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc, you will see a huge shift in the traditional festivals booking acts like that again too.
It certainly beats the same lineups every other year and the apparent shift to pop acts being the main headliners of festivals (Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, etc).

Very cool place if you have never been there They definitely are growing, but I will point out that this one is not a new festival. It used to be "Ink in the Clink," this is rebranding under new management. New management is booking bigger names and doing a way better job promoting it - last time I went, it was primarily a tattoo festival with music, I think Three Days Grace was the biggest draw.

Honestly, I would be pretty pumped if Bunbury picked up more hard rock bands. Something like an alt headliner, rap headliner, and hard rock headliner would be pretty cool

Something like an alt headliner, rap headliner, and hard rock headliner would be pretty cool A few years ago Boston Calling had Chance the Rapper, Mumford and Sons and Tool as headliners with Bon Iver, Weezer, Major Lazer and The XX as subs. I thought that was a pretty impressive lineup for a mid tier festival. I'd definitely be excited if Bunbury moved in that general direction

Sonic Temple is now offering $1 tickets for stadium level seats for individual days. I saw another Rock festival was doing this as well .... that can't seem to be a good sign one would think. Unless they are just trying to off load the amount left to pack people in but

Unless they are just trying to off load the amount left to pack people in but HOW DO I BUY THESE?! Legit just on their website. I got one for Friday to catch System of a Down. I wasn't going to because i have a rehearsal dinner to attend and wedding on Saturday but for $1 I'll just go to the stadium to catch SOAD after the dinner Friday night! I'm not a Foo Fighters fan but people who are should ABSOLUTELY jump on the Sunday ones.

shit! I missed this again! Where are you finding this out so I can follow them an put alerts on my phone? Festival Owl has been on it pretty quickly. This past time I noticed because someone on my twitter feed posted about it. The festival themselves haven't said anything about it so it seems like it's a viral strategy. Festival Owl is probably the best to follow for that. I did see he also pointed out that the reason they are likely doing this for some festivals is because they just want to pack the place and then make money off the concessions and parking sales that otherwise they would miss out on. That the ticket $$$ they get is minimal compared to the concessions. Which makes a lot of sense actually.

I plan on refreshing them ever 30 mins or so to see if I can snag a ticket. I really only have interest in seeing System of a Down, Boston Manor, Killswitch Engaged, Disturbed, The Struts, and Bring Me the Horizon. For $1, I'd be down just to go check out 1-2 shows per day honestly

I remember the reaction to last years was terrible too, since it was a major shift from more alternative past lineups. I can see why, the headliners were really bad, BUT there was a really nice undercard that I would have gone for. Great alternative and rock bands. This years is a mess. Vampire Weekend and PAnic! Are solid but past that.....

They are the Nicholas Cage of musical artists. They could've put Clay Aiken as a headliner and it would've still been an improvement Serious question though, do we think that these music festival are becoming too plentiful that they are scrambling to find anyone remotely interesting to book? Is the shear number of festivals causing the lineups to become mediocre?

Another symptom of too many festivals is that artists are just considering them part of their tour, now, even putting them as another date on their tour admats, and the magic of a festival set is reduced.

Looks like Sonic Temple had some weather problems yet again this year. Was anyone there that could give a short recap? How long did they delay stuff and did any big artists get canceled?

They started by closing the Wave stage due to high winds, then they cleared the field area for the main stage, then they evacuated the festival grounds until around 7:30. The only bands that played after that were Foo Fighters and Joan Jett

So Bring Me the Horizon was canceled? Yep. Glad I didn't end up buying a one day pass as they were the only artist I really really wanted to see. Overall though it sounds like the festival was run pretty smoothly other than the weather delays that are out of anyones hands
